Welcome to Otao Kitchen’s immersive Vietnamese food experience! 

Our head chef and owner was born in Hanoi and has been playing an active role in Melbourne’s Vietnamese community since his arrival 15 years ago. Armed with extensive hospitality experience, from working with highly-regarded hotel chains and tour operators, our head chef Ha and his highly skilled chefs will share their culinary knowledge and expertise whilst sharing the Vietnamese heritage surrounding the location of our school. 

From our close connections to the one of the first and oldest Vietnamese restaurant in Melbourne, to local Vietnamese grocers where we source the ingredients for our dishes and first-hand tips and tricks from chefs who have lived, learned and worked in Vietnam, you will enjoy a very unique culinary experience.

Look forward to learning about how the Vietnamese influenced the food culture in Melbourne, who were the first “foodpreneurs” and how they sourced/grown their produce to replicate their home recipes, how the business community has thrived to the point of becoming the "China Town" of Vietnam in Melbourne. 

Followed by sourcing the ingredients from local Vietnamese grocers whilst our chefs explain you the how and why of the ingredients chosen, and their alternatives, in case there is any dietary requirement and/or seasonality. 

Going back to our cooking studio, you’ll transform those ingredients into a delicious and authentic meal, through an interactive and insightful cooking masterclass. Participants will enjoy what they cook (or leave some for taking away) accompanied with complimentary alcoholic and non-alcoholic refreshments.
